LCEA Meeting: The Local Road to Copenhagen Climate Talks!

Speakers: Ellen Choy, Mobilization for Climate Justice; Ananda Lee Tan, GAIA; Kriss Worthington, Berkeley City Council

The LCEA has open meetings on the second Thursday of every month, featuring informative speakers on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and related efforts.

The next meeting of Alliance is October 10th at 6p and will feature presentations on how local climate actions fit into the December's U.N. climate negotiations in Copenhagen. Ellen Choy and Ananda Lee Tan will talk about specific local actions for Oct 24th and Nov. 30th that you can plug into, and discuss how the local actions provide support for strong climate action in Copenhagen. The talks will also cover climate justice issues and how to ensure that these issues should be included in any climate action plans.

In addition, Aaron Lehmer and Dave Room, steering committee members of the Oakland Climate Action Coalition, will give an update on the coalition's progress in working with the city, the new timeline, and getting the Port involved in the ECAP process. They will also facilitate a conversation to get your feedback on the coalition's progress and policies.

Also joining us will be Berkeley City Councilor Kriss Worthington to speak about PG&E's fraudulent ballot initiative which is intended to kill Community Choice Energy in California.  This initiative would also hamstring public power programs and set a dangerous precedent with respect to restricting a city's revenue bond authority. Kriss will discuss the initiative and how local energy activists can band together to defeat it.
