The Harvey Milk LBGT Democratic Club will be hosting a town hall meeting as an educational forum for Community Choice Aggregation on March 2nd. 2010 beginning at 7pm.
Authored by Assemblywoman Carole Migden and co-authored by Paul Finn, AS117 was signed into law in 2002. Supervisors Ross Mirkarimi and Tom Ammiano wrote the local ordinance and governance for this ground-breaking energy alternative program, which will allow consumers to purchase a minimum of 51% renewable energy which will be distributed through existing private grids to rate payers, who can opt-out of the program if they choose to do so.
Since this time, private utility companies, such as PG&E, have been campaigning against this alternative for rate payers by calling it “public power”, or simply disseminating messages to rate payers claiming the program is too costly. Despite previous public statements by PG&E to be cooperative in delivering a choice to consumers and providing what state law requires, PG&E has not only been falsely marketing to their rate payers, they have sponsored a statewide ballot initiative which will require municipalities to vote by a two-thirds majority for voters to approve of bond measures for these renewable projects.
Please join former State Senator Carole Migden, Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, Supervisor David Campos, Assemblemember Tom Ammiano (not confirmed), Tim Redmond, and other local and state leaders for a CCA Town Hall at The Center on March 2nd 2010.
Many people don’t even know what Community Choice Aggregation is (CCA) and PG&E is taking advantage of this by wording it as “public power” in a recent poll. It is imperative that we spread the word about this forum. Please invite others to attend to attend so they know what CCA is.
