BACKGROUND: Marin Clean Energy is an initiative designed to allow Marin residents and businesses to choose completely green, renewable power. Made possible by the Community Choice Aggregation law signed in 2002, Marin Clean Energy would allow Marin cities and towns to join a joint power authority which would then purchase power for its customers primarily from renewable power generators. Marin Clean Energy would reduce the County’s greenhouse gas emissions while also fueling local businesses by purchasing power from local renewable energy providers.
At this press conference, Marin Clean Energy will be releasing its final business plan and will detail its plans for the next few months to organize meetings and presentations with community groups throughout the County. At the culmination of this process, County cities and towns will each vote on whether to join this power authority and allow their residents to access this renewable power.
