Nuclear still pending - Ava Community Energy board to vote on September 18

LCEA has word from Ava Community Energy that the Board of Directors will be voting on whether to accept an allocation of nuclear energy from PG&E at next month’s September 18th board meeting at 6:00pm. What we need now is for everyone to spread the word by sharing our Petition to Oppose PG&E's Nuclear in Ava Community Energy to urge the Board to reject the offer. A Campaign Breakthrough for Community Driven Resilience Hubs

The Local Clean Energy Alliance has been hard at work in advocating for expanded resources for resilience hubs in Ava Community Energy territory. Our community engagement and advocacy with Ava Community Energy is the start at bridging the gap between community driven resilience hubs and a community choice public agency.

Staff Spotlight - Energy Democracy Campaign Organizer

Ayla Peters-Paz (she/her) is a Campaign Organizer for the Local Clean Energy Alliance focusing on community driven resilience hubs.

She graduated from UC Berkeley with degrees in Society and Environment and Political Economy, with a minor in Global Poverty and Practice. While at Berkeley, she wrote her thesis on the impacts of mechanization on the health and economic wellness of farm workers in the California Central Valley.

PG&E’s Diablo Canyon Nuclear Energy - Transparency issues and a False Solution to Climate Change

(07/2024) The vote on PG&E’s Diablo Canyon nuclear energy at Ava Community Energy is expected to happen on Wednesday, July 17th. Help us send a message to our Ava Community Energy board members, “We don't need PG&E's nuclear energy in our clean energy program.”  

Please sign the petition and/or make a comment at the Ava Community Energy Board meeting. The agency should post an agenda here late Friday for the next Ava Community Energy board meeting on Wednesday July 17 at 6:00pm.

Keep PG&E’s Nuclear out of Ava Community Energy - Update + Take Action

Ava Community Energy (formerly East Bay Community Energy or EBCE), the public electricity agency Community Choice program serving Alameda and San Joaquin Counties, is considering accepting PG&E’s Diablo Canyon nuclear energy into its power mix.

Invest in Community Resilience – $15M for Resilience Campaign

 The $15 Million for Resilience campaign is gaining traction. There are a few updates that I want to share, and I am optimistic that our continued engagement with Ava Community Energy will lead to important funding and resources for our communities throughout Ava Community Energy territory in Alameda County and San Joaquin County.
   

Hayward Equitable Electrification Update: Sustainability Committee Postponed

The Hayward Equitable Electrification Collaborative, a partnership between the Local Clean Energy Alliance, Cal State University East Bay (CSU East Bay), and the City of Hayward Environmental Services, is dedicated to promoting a just transition to all-electric alternatives for households, particularly within Hayward's Spanish-speaking communities. Committed public health students from CSU East Bay are central efforts to serve as community outreach workers. These students play a vital role in the Hayward Electrification Project by conducting active canvassing to gather valuable feedback and insights.

Support Community Resilience & Oppose Nuclear Energy

As the 2023-2024 fiscal year wraps up for Ava Community Energy—Alameda & San Joaquin Counties' Community Choice electricity agency, it is critical for us to advocate for resources for our communities, and thus the $15 Million for Community Choice Resilience campaign is here with 32 organizations signed on!

⚡At the Ava Community Energy board meeting on May 15th we are urging the board to expand funding for resilience hubs beyond incentives for solar and storage for microgrid installations.
