Tell the CPUC: More Local Solar, More Benefits, for More People

June 2, this Thursday, in San Francisco
Join the rally and speak out at the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) this Thursday to protest its resumed attack on community energy—in this case its efforts on behalf of PG&E and the state’s other monopoly utilities to stop the expansion of rooftop solar.

PG&E/Utilities Featured on John Oliver

(05/2022) "PG&E is more of a fire company that occasionally delivers power to people's homes."

On Last Week Tonight, John Oliver took a hard look at the corporate utility model in the US, laying out clearly (and hilariously!) the warped incentives that utilities are granted in our energy system. And if you're looking for the shining example of utility malfeasance, look no further than PG&E!

CPUC Resumes its Attack on Rooftop Solar

(05/2022) After a powerful public Save California Solar campaign forced Governor Newsom to tell his California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to shelve it’s December 2021 proposed decision to kill rooftop solar in California, the CPUC, on May 9, opened a new front in its attack on local solar.

Rather than heeding the overwhelming public opposition to the CPUC’s proposed gutting of the state’s Net Energy Metering (NEM) policy, the law judge presiding over the NEM proceeding floated a re-packaged version of the December proposed decision.

Same pig, new lipstick.

PG&E evades prosecution for Dixie, Kincade Fires

(04/2022) Reclaim Our Power spoke out last week about the atrocious deal made between PG&E and District Attorney's in 7 fire damaged counties. Despite being the clear cause of the death and destruction of the Kincade and Dixie Fires, PG&E will not face criminal oversight or structural changes that actually serve to keep Californians safe.

New Voices Are Rising Against PG&E Rate Hikes at the CPUC Public Hearing

April 2022
by Christie Fok

In January 2022, PG&E raised electricity rates by 8% and gas praises by 11%. In March 2022, PG&E raised rates again by 8.9% with the approval of the CPUC. With these prior rate hikes during the pandemic, many people, especially low-income folks, struggle to pay the PG&E bill and other costs of living.

Outrageously, PG&E recently proposed an additional 22% rate hike to be in effect from 2023 to 2026. If the CPUC approves this rate hike, PG&E customers will have to pay an additional $35 per month or $425 per year for electricity and gas. PG&E claims the rate hike would fund the improvement of their grossly neglected energy systems and wildfire mitigation.

"Equitable" Decarbonization--for Marketing Purposes Only?

(03/2022) Efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from existing buildings have gained momentum throughout governmental agencies in California. If accomplished, the transition could bring health and comfort benefits along with climate change mitigation. However, the costly, involved process of household decarbonization could also increase displacement, homelessness, foreclosure and gentrification in already burdened Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Recognizing these downsides, many governmental agencies have dubbed planning process as, “equitable” building decarbonization. Local Clean Energy Alliance (LCEA) has joined with other California environmental justice organizations in advocacy efforts with governmental agencies to ensure that the “equitable” is more than just a marketing ploy.

Our bills are going up!? PG&E has to go down

(03/2022)  Did you notice?

After causing the second largest wildfire in history, shutting off power to thousands, poisoning the lungs of people across the state, and being called a “menace” by a federal judge, PG&E actually raised your utility bill this year. Twice already!

And, to add insult to all of those injuries- they are at it again, demanding another rate increase to line the pockets of PG&E’s Wall St. investors.

Will you join us and our allies in demanding that Governor Newsom and the California Public Utilities Commission reject PG&E’s rate increase? (Click here to join our twitterstorm with TURN and other allies today, March 17th!)
