"Greenprint" Recommends Community Choice Energy, Solar Incentives, Efficiency Programs
Bay Localize and the Local Clean Energy Alliance released their "21st Century Greenprint for the East Bay," on Thursday, May 22. The "Greenprint" charts the most effective path toward a 100% renewable energy infrastructure for East Bay cities. Recommendations featured Community Choice Energy (technically known as Community Choice Aggregation), city-run enhanced energy efficiency programs, feed-in tariffs, and collective purchasing programs for solar energy systems. "Community Choice Aggregation is one of the most important initiatives that the city of Berkeley is working on," stated Berkeley City Council member Kriss Worthington to the packed crowd at the Berkeley Ecology Center.
The Local Clean Energy Alliance is made up of nonprofits, businesses, and concerned citizens who share a vision of a resilient, sustainable East Bay run entirely on renewable energy. Alliance embers include Bay Localize, Sierra Club, Pacific Environment, Berkeley Ecology Center, Kyoto USA, Nomad Café, Urban Alliance for Sustainability, Center for Safe Energy, Women’s Energy Matters, and Rainforest Action Network. The long term goal of the Alliance is for the East Bay to meet 100% of its future energy needs with a balanced mix of renewable energy, improvements in efficiency, and conservation.
Bay Localize is an Oakland-based nonprofit dedicated to regional self-reliance, ecological sustainability and social justice. The organization seeks to increase the quality of life in the Bay Area while decreasing fossil fuel use.
