Wednesday June 19 - A Green New Deal for the East Bay

We need you to testify to the East Bay Community Energy board on June 19 to demand a budget increase for the Local Development Business Plan programs and projects for 2019-2020!  We know you are busy, but together, we have been holding down this campaign for years. This work is groundbreaking because we finally have the opportunity to develop clean energy jobs and produce community benefits for our communities of color, low-income people, renters etc. Only we can speak for ourselves and our community needs!

RSVP now to join us Wednesday June 19, 6:00pm at City of San Leandro Council Chambers* to make our case to the East Bay Community Energy board:  https://tinyurl.com/RSVPJune19-LDBP

We have done our research and are asking for over $7M dollars towards local clean energy development programs and projects and that the Local Development Business Plan be moved into the, "Energy Operations" line item.  Check out our quick talking points here based off of our letter from the East Bay Clean Power Alliance (EBCPA) to the EBCE board that you can read here!  If you happen to just show up on Wednesday and are not prepared, no worries, we will have some talking points for you to read & placards for everyone to hold during the item vote.

Weds June 19 at 6:00pm
City of San Leandro Council Chambers, 835 E. 14th Street, San Leandro CA 94577

*From San Leandro BART, you can take AC Transit bus #1 (just outside of BART) towards downtown.  Exit at the second stop; E14th Street and Haas Ave, then cross the street at the crosswalk light and you are there!

(We plan to ask the chair to move the budget item, but there are no guarantees)

Background:

In 2016, the East Bay Clean Power Alliance advocated for and won a Community Choice energy program--East Bay Community Energy that committed to developing local clean energy benefit programs and projects in Alameda County.
The board of supervisors put forth $500,000 to develop a Local Development Business Plan (LDBP), a plan for creating a clean energy infrastructure at home, to create clean energy jobs, affordable clean energy, improve health and keep the energy wealth local.

In 2018 the Local Development Business Plan was completed and with your help, was adopted!

Now in 2019, we must make East Bay Community Energy go beyond plans and commit money towards action.  We are demanding $8M towards the following programs:
  • Vehicle Electrification
  • Building Electrification
  • Collaborative Procurement
  • Community Investment Fund
  • Enhanced Net Energy Metering
  • Demand Response
  • Energy Efficiency
For a review of what these programs and projects are, check out these handouts from our past workshops:

We are excited for you to join us to demand more money towards the Local Development Business Plan--A Green New Deal for Alameda County!
