Jesse Gutierrez (he/him), is a returning LCEA intern who is now part of the Sustainability Leadership program at California State University (CSU) East Bay. He will assist us in advancing a program for resilience hubs in Ava Community Energy territory. He is a dedicated public health professional, passionate about protecting our planet's health by building a sustainable future, advocating for a just transition to renewable energy, and preserving nature.
Jesse was born in Los Angeles, then blossomed in the East Bay's natural beauty. The majestic Muir Mountains, Oakland redwoods, and Golden Gate Bridge vistas fostered his deep connection to the natural world. Earlier this year, Jesse helped survey 100 Spanish-speaking Hayward residents to understand their awareness of home electrification and decarbonization. Alongside the City of Hayward, the CSU East Bay Department of Public Health, and LCEA, Jesse conducted a focus group and collected qualitative and quantitative data to improve Hayward's sustainability policies. Currently in his final year of his B.S. in Public Health, Jesse aims to join the California Department of Public Health as a health program and policy analyst.
Beyond academics, Jesse enjoys live music, comedy, and video games. He values connecting with others and welcomes opportunities to discuss environmental issues and public health initiatives.
