Mujeres Unidas Y Activas: Workshop 3 Success

We were invited once again by our good friends at Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA) to provide an Energy & Electrification workshop at their new office location in Union City, CA. MUA is an organization of Latina and Indigenous immigrant women with the mission to grow personal and community power for social and economic justice.

MUA has achieved many milestones, including ensuring that immigrant women receive prenatal care in California, improving access to translation services in hospitals and clinics in Alameda County, and advocating for greater protections for domestic workers. As part of our goals to fight inequity, racism, language barriers, and for energy justice and democracy, we aimed to educate the organization's community members and answer any questions they might have regarding electrification and healthy homes.

All community members were engaged in our discussions and participated in hands-on activities we had prepared based on what they could relate to within their home environment. The takeaways from this workshop included the frustration expressed by community members who would like to be more active in the transition to electrification but are left out due to the lack of multilingual resources. One member mentioned that they found information for resources but struggled since it was only available in English. This is some of the important work we do to advocate to local governments to help these communities.
