(09/2022) The Local Clean Energy Alliance urges you to pressure the East Bay Community Energy (EBCE) board of directors to redirect the proposed $15 million of ratepayer funds into investments for our energy needs such as those in the local development business plan programs, instead of giving it away to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. EBCE was established as an energy service provider not a medical research agency.
Due to lack of public transparency on the item, the vote to decide on the allocation of this $15 million gift had been postponed since June. We must continue to hold EBCE accountable for the impact their vote will have on the resilience of the East Bay community.
We need you to urge East Bay Community Energy (EBCE) Board Members to reallocate $15 million dollars of ratepayer funds into local development business plan programs. Such programs include investments in energy efficiency, building electrification, funding for community innovation, resilience and so much more. East Bay Community Energy Board will be having an Executive Meeting on Friday September 30th, 2022 at 12:00 Noon public comment is necessary so that EBCE hears from the community. EBCE will update the agenda and meeting details as the date gets closer. They are required to post agendas and meeting information at least 72 hours before any public meeting.
East Bay Community Energy was created in 2016 as a community energy program so the public should have a say in the way that their ratepayers funds are spent. They should be using financial resources to address the root causes of asthma and environmental injustice in the East Bay communities that it serves.
