Hayward Equitable Electrification Update: Sustainability Committee Postponed

The Hayward Equitable Electrification Collaborative, a partnership between the Local Clean Energy Alliance, Cal State University East Bay (CSU East Bay), and the City of Hayward Environmental Services, is dedicated to promoting a just transition to all-electric alternatives for households, particularly within Hayward's Spanish-speaking communities. Committed public health students from CSU East Bay are central efforts to serve as community outreach workers. These students play a vital role in the Hayward Electrification Project by conducting active canvassing to gather valuable feedback and insights.

Support Community Resilience & Oppose Nuclear Energy

As the 2023-2024 fiscal year wraps up for Ava Community Energy—Alameda & San Joaquin Counties' Community Choice electricity agency, it is critical for us to advocate for resources for our communities, and thus the $15 Million for Community Choice Resilience campaign is here with 32 organizations signed on!

⚡At the Ava Community Energy board meeting on May 15th we are urging the board to expand funding for resilience hubs beyond incentives for solar and storage for microgrid installations.

Intern Spotlight - Cynthia Campos

Cynthia Campos (she/her/ella) is a Cal State East Bay student intern for the Local Clean Energy Alliance while working alongside the City of Hayward to educate and inform current Hayward residents about home electrification to reduce climate change. She originally comes from SoCal, a city in Los Angeles known as Huntington Park. HP is more than a city to her, as this community has shaped her roots and background.

Intern Spotlight - Jesse Gutierrez

Jesse Gutierrez (he/him), passionate about protecting our planet's health, thrives at the intersection of public health, environment, and policy. Equipped with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from California State University East Bay, he aims to join the CDC, or EPA as a public health analyst, shaping policies that safeguard our environment's integrity and promote equitable population health.

Intern Spotlight - Janet Martinez-Barragan

Janet Martinez-Barragan (she/her) is a student intern with the Local Clean Energy Alliance. She is in her last semester as a student at Cal State East Bay. She is majoring in Health Sciences with a concentration in Health Policy. She is passionate about using health policy to address health disparities and inequities. She is not sure what area of public health she wants to work in, but is excited to explore work opportunities when she graduates. In her spare time, she likes to play with her two dogs, Gracie and Gavilán.

Intern Spotlight - Valeria Mora

Valeria Mora (she/her) is a college intern with the Local Clean Energy Alliance along with working with the City of Hayward. Originally from the central coast where she was able to experience the beauty of the ocean, she fell in love with nature. Now she resides in Hayward where majestic trees such as the Oakland Redwoods and views from the top of the Berkeley Hills have made the Bay Area someplace special to her.

The Hayward Equitable Electrification Collaborative, a dynamic partnership between the Local Clean Energy Alliance, Cal State University East Bay (CSU East Bay), and the City of Hayward Environmental Services, is making significant strides in its mission to lay the groundwork for an equitable electrification just transition. 

Environmental Justice Community & Labor Victory at Ava Community Energy

The Local Clean Energy Alliance (LCEA) as part of the Workforce & Environmental Justice Alliance – an alliance of labor unions, workforce development, environmental justice and community choice advocates – was successful in passing a unity position with Ava Community Energy (formerly East Bay Community Energy).

Hayward Equitable Electrification - Spanish Community Outreach

The Hayward Equitable Electrification Collaborative is a partnership between the Local Clean Energy Alliance, California State University East Bay (CSU East Bay) and City of Hayward Environmental Services. This collaborative effort engages Public Health students from CSU East Bay who are serving as community outreach workers in Hayward. These interns are integral to the Hayward Electrification Project which aims to equitably transition households from natural gas appliances to all-electric alternatives, but this cannot happen without language access and meaningful inclusion.
