With the Cities of Los Angeles and New York City passing their own versions of the Green New Deal, there is a lot of momentum and real opportunity to move forward on renewable energy and green jobs at the local level. What are the common barriers to creating these green jobs and how can local governments leverage policy to make sure that frontline communities get the benefits?
A new project in West Oakland and Jack London Square aims to achieve many goals at once: saving money, providing local jobs, fighting climate change, reducing toxic air pollution, and cutting electricity bills for hundreds of low-income households. East Bay Community Energy, the region's new clean energy provider, recently signed contracts with three companies to deploy an array of new batteries that will replace a jet-fuel-powered "peaker plant," which is now fired up when the demand for electricity is unusually high.
The No PG&E Bailout Coalition staged a demonstration outside PG&E Headquarters at PG&E’s Annual Shareholder Meeting. Eighty-five shoes were laid outside of the PG&E Shareholders meeting representing the lives of those killed in the Camp Fire last Fall, which was proven to be caused by PG&E’s neglected transmission wires.

A legislative Coup against Community Choice is underway, and not over by a long shot.
